It seems like the eyes of everyone on the Gulf Coast are glued to the Weather
Channel, with the rapid approach of a potential hurricane. It’s good to stay informed, but our constant focus should be where it is always best directed: to God in heaven. Psalm 33:7-8 says, “HE gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap … Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of HIM.”
There are forces in motion in our world which are fearsome to mankind, but the Bible points us to the One Who is in charge of them all. Verse 6 of Psalm 33 says, “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host.” God made the heavens, and everything in them. Verse 7 says HE is the One who gathers them together as a heap. The storm we currently face is in the hand of God. For that reason, the Bible says, our attention and respect should be directed to HIM: “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.”
So go ahead and tune in to the Weather Channel — it’s ok to check the progress of the storm, and make appropriate preparations. But save your fear for God. He is the Sovereign of the Universe, and He holds this storm — and all else — in His hand. You are never better focused than when you keep your eyes on Him!
