Working With Delight

Proverbs 31:13 says that the excellent wife “works with her hands IN DELIGHT”. This is one of the many qualities in that chapter which apply to more than just a virtuous woman. Each of us — male or female — should seek to emulate her in this. What this verse tells us is that she does not “just do” her work — but that she does it with “DELIGHT”. Her daily chores are not regarded by her as drudgery, but as her first and most important ministry – so she delights in it!

This applies to ALL of us, too, in our daily work — especially those of us who know the Lord, who are commanded to do everything we do to the glory of God. We should regard whatever we are doing as what God has set before us that given day, to be done with all our hearts. So like the old hymn says, let us “serve the Lord with gladness” today and “work … in delight”!
