In I Timothy 6, Paul commands Timothy in :17 to “instruct the rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches.” He then goes on to exhort them “to be rich in good works.” This is a better kind of riches which we can have as our ambition to obtain.
This better kind of riches is based not upon how many earthly treasures you can accumulate, or how much money you can stash in the bank – but on how many good things you can do for God and others. Despite what is promulgated by the “your best life now”-type prosperity teachers, you may never be “rich in this present world.” But even if you are, those riches will not last. God specifically commands in these verses for us NOT to fix our hope on those fleeting treasures. But on the other hand, it is entirely up to YOU whether you will obtain BETTER riches, by being “rich in good works”!
