Pursue Faith

Included in the Apostle Paul’s final admonitions to his disciple Timothy in I Timothy 6 was a charge in :11 for him to “pursue … faith.” To “pursue faith” means to put one’s self, in God’s leadership, in situations where one has to trust God. Unfortunately, the tendency most of us have is to do the opposite:

we try to arrange things so neatly that we NEVER have to trust God! We do our best to have everything provided for and worked out in advance; thus there is no need for faith. But this is NOT the kind of life that pleases God. In fact, Hebrews 11:6 says: “Without faith it is impossible to please God”. If that is so (and it is!) then in what area of your life are you pleasing God by doing something in faith? Some of us really need to examine ourselves. How, other than for your salvation, are you exercising faith in God? You may consider yourself to be “religious” or “a child of God” – but if you are not acting in faith, the Bible says you are not pleasing Him. Perhaps this is the very word from God for YOU today: “PURSUE FAITH!”

Shawn, I loved your article on the drink offering. I teach a women’s bible study class and am watching them grown right before my eyes. This idea of being “poured out” is a hard concept to “teach” in our self-gratifying world. I suppose it is better to show by example the picture so they can see clearly. Trying to follow Paul as He followed Christ! Hopefully, Jesus will have a long line of imitators on THAT DAY!! God bless you and continue to give you insight into His word for the sake of your readers. Susan

Susan, that’s great about the growth you are seeing in the ladies in your class — I know that is gratifying for you. I’m thankful for your input on the blog — it is always good to hear from those who are reading the devotions — and may God grant your blessing! Thanks!
