His Manner of Grace

The prayer of Psalm 119:132 is “Turn to me and be gracious to me – after Your manner with those who love Your name”. The Psalmist asks God to be gracious to him, and bases it on the “manner” of God. Being gracious is just God’s “manner”; it is His way of dealing with us. He just IS a gracious God. When He revealed Himself to Moses in Exodus 34, God’s proclamation of His essential qualities began: “Compassionate, gracious …”. (Exodus 34:6) We should never take God’s gracious manner for granted, but we should also be confident that whenever we come to Him, we CAN expect grace from Him; He WILL turn to us; He WILL be gracious to us — for it is His manner! And we should thank God every day that it is so!
