Consider Your Ways

In Psalm 119:59 the writer says: “I considered my ways, and turned my feet to Your testimonies.” This is exactly what we SHOULD do from time to time — step back and evaluate our lives, and adjust ourselves to the standards of God’s word.

The problem is, we don’t always DO that. It is easier to just do whatever we feel like, or whatever we have been in the habit of doing, without really thinking about whether the direction of lives is pleasing to God. This is part of the importance of our daily time in the word of God. It gives us an opportunity to consider our ways: to compare ourselves to what we see in scripture, and with the help of the Holy Spirit, to make needed adjustments. Then we can say as the Psalmist did: “I considered my ways, and turned my feet to Your testimonies.”
