Fixing Your Eyes On Him

Psalm 25:15 says: “My eyes are continually toward the Lord.” This is one of the keys to walking with God: keeping our eyes continually on Him. This is what Psalm 16:8 means when it says: “I have set the Lord continually before me.” It is a constant fixing of our “mind’s eye” on the reality of the presence and the Person of God. It is what Brother Lawrence called “practicing the presence of the Lord” at all times. This is also where many of us would admit that we fall short; we do NOT constantly look to Him as we should, and many of our other failures as God’s people are a result of this one.

The second part of this verse is also notable: “FOR He will pluck my feet out of the net.” This is an important corollary to the first part of this verse:
WHY does David say he keeps his eyes on the Lord all the time? He does it because he needs Him to get him out of a “net”. He is in some kind of trouble. But God uses this difficulty to help David keep his eyes fixed on Him.
We need to realize that this is often God’s design. He allows difficulties in our lives to drive us continually to Him, like we never would have otherwise. But as a result of the problems, we constantly look to the Lord, the One who can help us: “HE will pluck my feet out …”. God is the One who can help you; so in whatever situation you find yourself, keep looking to Him without fail. Just as Hebrews encourages us, let us be in the practice of “fixing our eyes on Jesus”!
