Hebrews 1 quotes a number of Old Testament scriptures to prove the deity and superiority of Christ. Verse 11, quoting Psalm 102:26, says of the heavens and earth, which Christ created, “they will perish, but You remain.” It is always good for us to remember that every created thing will perish, everything on which we might be tempted to set our hope, or love inordinately:
a house, car, clothes, possessions, etc. We will lose these things either by theft, or destruction, or financial loss, or depreciation and use. Whatever happens to them during our lifetime, we will certainly lose them ALL at our death. The only thing that lasts forever is our relationship with God. “They will perish but You remain.” When everything else is taken away, we have our relationship with God – and if it is real, nothing and no one can take that away from us. Therefore we should set our heart on HIM instead of on material things, and treasure Him as our greatest and best investment – and the only one which will last forever. For “they will perish, but You remain”!
