My Tongue Is A Pen

In Psalm 45, the writer says in :1, “My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.” This is how it is when one is in love; they gush about the object of their love. This is why love is the source of so much poetry; the enthralled heart must express itself, and constant meditation on the one loved gives rise to many such expressed thoughts. Your tongue is ready to sing the praises of the one you love.
I believe that this explains the failure of many professed Christians to witness about the Lord.

It is not that they need more “witness training” or guilt motivation; no one has to “train” men to witness about their favorite sports team; they naturally talk about that team they love! You don’t have to “guilt” a young woman to get her to gush about the qualities of her beloved. Their tongues are “ready pens” — they eagerly speak of that which they love. The same thing will be true for the Christian who is in love with Jesus: they will eagerly and often speak of Him whom they love. What many in the church today really need is not training or manipulative motivation to witness. What we need more than anything else is to genuinely fall in love with the King – and then like the Psalmist here, our “tongues will be the pen of a ready writer”!
