Psalm 119:55 says: “I remember Your name in the NIGHT O Lord, and I keep Your Law”
What is significant about remembering God’s name “in the “night”?
— First of all, it can mean “all the time” — day (obviously) and night also. In other words, God’s word is to be remembered and kept ALL the time.
— Night is also when many are tempted to sin. I Thessalonians 5:7 says: “Those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.” Many feel like night is a good cover for their sin, so David says that he will remember God at night, and keep His Law!
— Finally, night is when it is dark; it is sometimes hard to remember God’s light then. It can be easier to succumb to depression and despair. But the Psalmist says he will remember God’s name in the night — even in those potentially dark, discouraging times. He says I will remember God’s name then.
When we remember God’s name “in the night”, He will be faithful to come to our aid. Like Job 35:10 says: “God my Maker gives songs in the night.”
