In Psalm 2:8, God tells His Anointed One: “ASK of Me …”. God would do immense things for His Messiah: give the Gentiles as an inheritance, the very ends of the earth as His possession – but He wanted Him to ASK. The same thing is true for us.
God can and will do marvelous things for us – but He wants us to ASK. We find this numerous times in scripture: “ASK and it will be given to you …” (Matthew 7:7); “Until now you have asked for nothing in My name, ASK …” (John 16:24); “You have not because you ASK not” (James 4:2) etc. These verses surely challenge to us to do what God commands us to do: ASK!
Many times we may be reluctant to ask for things – especially for ourselves. Perhaps we feel more comfortable asking on behalf of others, but don’t always apply the same principles of intercession to our own situations. This verse reminds us to ask – in God’s will of course, just like those requests in Psalm 2. And we can ask BIG – just like those requests — for the God of the Bible is an Almighty God who is able to bring anything He desires to pass! In light of that: ASK!
