Psalm 25:12 says: “Who is the man who fears the Lord? He will instruct him in the way he should choose.” Many people are seeking to make the right choices for their career or other important life issues. This is, in fact, one of the most common questions people have regarding their Christian life: what is God’s will for me? What decision should I make? This verse promises that God will indeed instruct a certain type of person in the way he should choose:
This Psalm says the person God will instruct is “the man who fears the Lord.” The question for each of us then becomes, “Am I that person? Can I claim this promise? Do I fear the Lord?” Without going into a lengthy study on “the fear of the Lord” in this post, fearing God does NOT mean walking in a “craven fear” of Him. It does mean that you have a continual respect for God in everything you do, because you realize you are always accountable to Him. It is similar to what Proverbs 3:6 says, “In all your ways acknowledge Him.” If you do that, just as that familiar verse promises, “He WILL make your path straight.” If you walk in respect for the Lord in everything you do, then you can claim the promise of this verse for your situation: “He WILL instruct him in the way he should choose.” If, on the other hand, you are NOT walking in the fear of the Lord, then you have a bigger problem before you than that decision you are concerned about!
