Psalm 116:6 says: “The LORD preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He saved me.”
In keeping with the word “simple”, which opens the verse, the story line here is simple: “I was brought low — and He saved me.” This is a simple truth; a simple testimony. It reminds us that the basics of Christianity are not complicated.
Often times we make an effort to appear to be very “intelligent” and “studious” or “sophisticated” — but we do it to our discredit. We need this reminder: “The LORD preserves the SIMPLE”! The Hebrew word here for “simple” means “open”; with “unsuspecting trust in God” (Barnes). Just be like the “child” that Jesus said you need to imitate, who will simply come to Him, and find the Kingdom of God.
Do you need to be saved? It is not complicated: you have been “brought low” in sin, and Jesus will save you! Simply put your trust in Him as your Lord & Savior!
Do you need to share a word of testimony with someone about what God has done for you? You don’t have to attend a training seminar to do that. This Psalm shows us that it can be as simple as this: “I was brought low, and He saved me”!
