Commitment to Praise

In Psalm 108:1, David says: “My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing, I will sing praises.” What David was expressing here was not a ritual, but rather a heartfelt commitment to praise, regardless of his circumstances.
He says: “my heart is steadfast” – in other words, he is committed to sing praises to God no matter how he “feels” or what plight may be assailing Him. He goes on to say, “I WILL sing praises.” This is another reflection of his commitment: He was determined that he WOULD be found singing praise to God, whether the next day found him lounging in a palace, or fleeing in a wilderness. He was committed to praise his God.
As God’s people today, we are to exhibit that same commitment. We are not to praise God just when we “feel” like it. As the old analogy goes, in the “train” of our praise, feelings are the “caboose” which follows after; faith commitment is the “engine” that drives the train! May our commitment to praise our God be just like David’s. May we rise up today and declare: “My heart is steadfast, O God … I WILL sign praises”!
