The Right Side of History

Psalm 2:1-3 asks: “Why are the nations in an uproar, and the peoples devising a vain thing? The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying ‘Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us.'”
Although this ultimately refers to an eschatological (end times) event, :1-3 are also a picture of what happens every time man rebels against God, when they reject His word regarding any issue.

They get all upset about it (“in an uproar”) and “devise a vain thing” in the form of some alternate direction to His truth. They say, whether consciously or subconsciously, “Let us tear their fetters apart, and cast away their cords from us.” But they cannot ultimately succeed in their plans. Psalm 2 goes on to say: “He who sits in the heavens laughs” (:4) and then He oversees judgment against them (:5).

These verses could be applied to the almost unlimited “mini-rebellions” which have taken place all through history, leading up to its final fulfillment in the last days. The important thing for US to do, is to make sure we are on the right side of this conflict! “Do homage to the Son”, :12 admonishes. Worship Jesus, and be absolutely committed to obey His word, and no matter what “uproar” you may face from a rebellious world now, you will ultimately be found on the right side of history.
