Psalm 1 opens by declaring that the righteous man does not walk, stand or sit in the ways of the wicked, but :2 says, “his DELIGHT is in the Law of The Lord, and in His Law he meditates day and night. In this verse, “in His Law he meditates” is paralleled with “delight”, teaching us that you meditate on that which you delight in. How do you know where your “delight” is?
It is easy to identify: your delight is in what you think about the most. Hence the “delight” the Bible is talking about here is not just a “religious deed” or discipline; it is much more; it is something that comes from the heart. So the searching question for us becomes: Upon WHAT do you meditate on all day? What is the first thing you think about in the morning, and the last thing you ponder at night? Where does your mind go when it is not actively engaged in anything else? THAT is where your delight really is. If that is not a source of comfort for you, then make this an occasion for repentance and supplication to God, and ask Him to change your heart. For your thoughts do not lie: you meditate on your true delight.
