In Psalm 9:15 David speaks of the judgment which will come upon those who reject God. He writes: “The nations have sunk down in the pit which they have made; in the net which they hid, their own foot has been caught.”
Sometimes we think of GOD as judging the wicked, and “doing something” to them. But this verse reminds us that often His “judgment” just involves letting the natural course of people’s own decisions, and the works of their own hands, come back upon them.
Proverbs 26:27 says a similar thing: “He who digs a pit will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone, it will come back on him.” God doesn’t actually have to “do” anything to many people to punish them — except allow them to “reap” what they have already “sown”! (Galatians 6:7)
How many times does His restraining grace hold BACK such things from us? We should all be aware that God is so often gracious to us, and doesn’t always give us what we deserve. We need to recognize that, and understand that we are not “better” than others, but in fact deserve the same as what God says they will receive: for the works of their own hands to come back upon them.
