When Satan appeared before God in Job 1 & 2, the Lord had a word for him. Both in 1:8 and 2:3, He asked him, “Have you considered My servant Job?” This is a living example of what Psalm 147:10-11 says, “He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He does not take pleasure in the legs of a man. YHWH favors those who fear Him, those who wait for His lovingkindness.”
What do men love to boast and talk about? A horse owner may brag about his prize stallion; a football fan may continually speak about his favorite running back. But the Bible tells us that God doesn’t take pleasure in these things; He doesn’t care about the strength of a horse, or the legs of a man, Psalm 147 says, but in those — like we see in Job here — who fear Him!
When God watches us endure a trial, and maintain, even when we are hurting or do not understand what is going on, that we still believe that He is good and does good (Psalm 119:68) THAT is the kind of thing He boasts about to Satan, just like He did in Job.
May we live in such a way that our God would take pride in us! Like a son who wants to please his father, let us live for the approval and joy of our Heavenly Father. May we give Him occasion to boast of us to the enemy of our souls: “Have you considered My servant ______?”
