The Favor of Men, or God?

“For am I now seeking the favor of men or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.” (Galatians 1:10)

This is the bottom-line issue for many of us: do we want to just placate people, by telling them what they want to hear, or do we really at heart want to please God — in which case we will tell His truth to His people, regardless of their response?
In the verses preceding, Paul had pronounced a curse on those who preach a gospel different than salvation by grace through faith. This may seem “narrow-minded” to many — but followers of Christ are not to be about what is “politically correct,” but what is true in God’s eyes. May God give us the grace and courage to imitate Paul in this. In our messages, teaching, personal counsel, and public proclamatiions, may we not seek the favor of men, but of God!
