Stand By And See

“But Moses said to the people, ‘Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever.’”

What did Israel do to bring about their salvation that day by the Red Sea? NOTHING. Their command from Moses was merely, “Stand by and see” what God would do to save them. And they did watch what God did as He saved them by splitting the sea and destroying their enemies.

This is also a picture of OUR salvation. What did WE do in order to achieve the forgiveness of our sins and our reconciliation with God? Nothing. It was not brought about by anything good that WE did, but entirely through Jesus’ work for us on the cross. Our part is merely to “stand by and see” His glorious salvation, and to trust HIS finished work on our behalf.

As the hymn says: “Behold the Man upon the cross; my sin upon His shoulders.”

“Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord.”
