Your Most Important Job: Worship!

Several times in Exodus (7:16, 8:1, etc.) God told Pharaoh: “Let My people go THAT THEY MAY SERVE ME”. His call to His people was NOT just to “go”; the purpose of their deliverance was that they might go to serve Him. Of what would this “service” consist? In Exodus 5:3 God had said that they were to go into the wilderness and “sacrifice to the Lord our God.” So the “serving” that Israel was to do was to worship God.
This helps illuminate New Testament passages like Revelation 22:3 where it says of heaven, “His bond-servants shall serve Him.”
Some have speculated on what kind of “jobs” we will have in heaven. But these Exodus passages help us to understand that the “service” God has called us to is “worship.” The “service” we will perform in heaven forever will be worship of the King Eternal. What should challenge us today is that the most important service we will have in heaven forever is also our most important job here on earth right now. God’s call to Israel was not just to “go”, but to go and worship Him. And His call to us as His people today is the same. He calls us to worship Him. There is no more important task you have — any day of your life — than worshiping God! Today and every day, let us be about our most important business!
