A Good Test

Hebrews 9:28 says, “So Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.” This verse is a good test of one’s Christianity.
It tells us that those who belong to Jesus eagerly await His return. They are not in love with this present world; like the old Puritan pastor Samuel Rutherford, they say that this world is what they have fallen OUT of love with! The genuine Christian has had his fill of the temptations and hardships of this world, and would love to be out of it. But more than anything else, the true follower of Christ “eagerly awaits” the return of Jesus, because he desires to have the fellowship with Him that he will enjoy forever when He comes.

This really IS a test of the genuineness of one’s Christianity — and perhaps one of the best. In your heart of hearts, do you EAGERLY await the coming of the Lord? Is it something you look forward to, and embrace? Or are you fearful, reluctant, hoping that it does NOT happen any time soon? The Bible makes it very clear in this verse: the ones Jesus is coming for are those “who eagerly await Him”!
