Are You A Wise Son?

Proverbs 13 opens: “A wise son accepts his father’s discipline, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.” We need to understand that these words apply to more than just young children:

If “a wise son accepts his father’s discipline” here on earth, where fathers are flawed & imperfect, how much MORE should we accept the discipline of our perfect Father in Heaven? Even loving, earthly parents can make mistakes on the type, or severity of the discipline they administer. But God makes no mistakes at all. He is perfectly good, and perfectly wise. He will not render anything other than the perfectly appropriate discipline that He knows we need in our life, in order to correct our sins, conform us to His image, and to accomplish His purposes.

So if you find yourself under God’s discipline; do not complain, or chafe under it. Be wise. Pray to see things from God’s perspective, and “accept (your) Father’s discipline.”
