Distractions From Devotions

Our church, Pleasant Ridge Baptist in Morganton, North Carolina, is sending three adult members out to different mission fields this weekend: one to Wales, one to Haiti, and one to Romania. I sent them this quote from China Inland Mission founder Hudson Taylor about the importance of prayer to mission work — and the way that the enemy will often try to distract us from it: “The hardest part of a missionary career, Mr. Taylor found, is to maintain regular, prayerful Bible study. ‘Satan will always find you something to do,’ he would say,
‘when you ought to be occupied about that, if it is only arranging a window blind.’”
(Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret, p.. 239)

We MUST have daily time with the Lord if we are to be successful in His work. Jesus said to His disciples: “Without Me, you can do NOTHING.”  But we need to remember: time with the Lord each morning is vital not only on the foreign mission field, but in the every day home mission field He has given each of us as well!
